The purpose of a consultation is to develop a plan that will
assist in the resolution of learning issues that have been
identified by the student, supervisor, or Faculty Field Advisor.
Before a consultation is called, reasonable efforts will be
made to resolve concerns in conversations between supervisor
and student, faculty field advisor and student, and supervisor
and faculty field advisor. Consultations will occur when such
conversations have been insufficient to problem solve the
issues at hand. Additional efforts at problem solving may
include but are not limited to multiple party conference calls
or face to face meetings. The field Department will make all
final decisions about calling a consultation.
In most situations, the Consultation process will be sufficient
to resolve the difficulties. No disciplinary action may result
from a Consultation. If the performance problems are serious
enough and there is still doubt about their future resolution,
the Review process or a second Consultation may be recommended.
The Consultation Committee for Field Work Performance shall
be composed of the following members drawn from the Committee:
 |
Either the Director of Field Work or the
Field Coordinator, as determined by the Director of Field
Work, who shall be the Chair |
 |
The agency representative |
 |
The second-year student representative |
 |
The student's advocate, if the student chooses |
 |
A non-student member of the Anti-Racism Consultation
Committee who is a person of color. The Bertha Reynolds
Fellow shall serve in that capacity whenever possible. |
The Consultation
process can be initiated by a student, supervisor, faculty
member, or Faculty Field Advisor. The requesting individual
should submit to the Director of Field Work, with a copy to
the student, a written statement including representative
materials, detailing the student's difficulties, or if called
by the student, materials representing the student’s
concern. The Faculty Field Advisor and supervisor will be
notified should a student request Consultation with regard
to concerns or issues pertaining to his or her work at the
agency. If the Director of Field Work chooses to initiate
the Consultation process, the Consultation Committee will
meet with the individual requesting the Consultation and other
appropriate parties, e.g. student, supervisor, or Faculty
Field Advisor, as may be indicated.
At the conclusion of the Consultation, the student will be
verbally informed of the outcome. A written statement of the
recommendations of the Consultation will be sent to the student.
No information obtained during a Consultation will be placed
in the student’s permanent record, although a report
will be sent to the Field Office to be kept in a separate
file. If a Consultation leads to a Review, a written statement
will be provided to the Associate Dean by the Chair of the
Consultation Committee. The student may add an addendum to
the Chair’s written statement prepared for the Review.
