There are nearly 5,000 alumni of the School, residing in 50 states and 19 foreign countries. Together they form a vast network of skilled professionals providing leadership in a variety of social work settings including family service agencies, mental health centers, child welfare agencies, schools and hospitals. They are a vital and professionally involved group with a strong commitment to the School and to the profession of social work.

The School for Social Work’s Unique Alumni-Student Network: What Our Alumni Do For Our Students

Realizing that field placement can be period of uncertainty for students, Smith College School for Social Work's alumni network around the country offers support to students in many ways.

Here's a list of some of the services our alumni offer to students:

Housing ideas, resources, listings

Temporary housing while resettling or apartment hunting

Household furnishings or odds 'n ends for new apartments

Community/neighborhood information (e.g. maps, transportation, safe areas, where to study, where to shop/exercise/relax, etc.)

Part-time job resources

Low-cost psychotherapy (referrals and sometimes direct provision as appropriate)

Support groups

Assistance with interview preparation, résumés, cover letters, etc.

Mentorships

Clinical supervision hours (for SCSSW doctoral students) AND

A warm welcome, a listening ear and a feeling of "home away from home."
