Volunteer Opportunities

The Smith School for Social Work is very reliant on the generous volunteer efforts of our students and graduates. Please check of any or all of those activities that interest you.

Please note: SCSSW Alumni Association guidelines permit the sharing of contact information only with other Smith SSW alumni, faculty and administrators. You will be notified if anyone other than SSW alumni, faculty and administrators wants to be in contact with you.

SSW Prospective Student Networking (Admission)

I would like to:

Contact potential students who inquire about the School for Social Work.
E-mail or talk to potential SSW applicants to answer their questions about what the student experience at SSW is like.
Host or attend local presentations on SSW with faculty, adjuncts, and field representatives.
Represent SSW at professional recruiting gatherings where future students might be in attendance.

SSW Alumni Activities

I would like to be considered:

As a candidate to fill vacancies on the SSW Alumni Association Board (president, vice president, treasurer, etc.).
As a provider of local information to recent graduates who are new to my area.
To host or help plan SSW faculty talks.
As an informational networking contact for Smith College and SSW alumni working with the Career Development Office (CDO).
To assist in SSW fundraising.
As a host for a SSW alumni event in my area.
As an Area Coordinator (AC). These position plan plan and/or host gatherings for SSW alumni and students. Additionally, the Office of Development and Alumni Affairs provides ACs with lists of alumni volunteers who want to integrate with current students.

Placement Activities

I would be pleased to:

Host regional student events (spring and fall) in which SSW students and graduates can network and meet.
Welcome SSW students on field placement in my area to meet with me and have coffee.
Provide housing information and/or housing resources for students on field placement.
Provide reduced-rate psychotherapy ($40 or less/hour) to SSW students.
Mentor a student or be part of a local support group.
