NAADAC, The Association for Addiction Professionals, has been awarded the Now is the Time: Minority Fellowship Program for Addictions Counselors which will provide tuition stipends up to $20,000 for Master's Level students in the final year of an accredited Master's program in addiction substance abuse counseling with a demonstrated commitment to working with underserved and minority populations and transition age youth (ages 16-25).
This marks an important achievement as it is the first time that the fellowship program has been extended to Addiction Counselors. It is a defining step in marking Addiction Counseling as a separate and distinct profession with specialized competencies, knowledge, skills and attitudes. NAADAC has been awarded $800,000 per year for four years for a total of $3.2M. The Minority Fellowship Program for Addiction Counselors (NMFP-AC) will increase the number of culturally-competent Master's level addiction counselors available to underserved and minority populations and transition age youth (ages 16-25) by providing tuition stipends, training, education and professional guidance to students in the final year of an accredited Master's program in addiction/substance abuse counseling with a demonstrated commitment to working with these groups.
Eligibility and application materials can be found at: http://www.naadac.org/nmfp-ac-eligibility-application-process. The application deadline for the first year of funding is February 28, 2015.
