You can register to volunteer by completing the Volunteer Opportunities Form or by calling our office at (413) 585-4290.
Admissions
Who knows Smith College School for Social Work program better than our alumni? Prospective students can benefit from the expertise, experience and advice of those who have gone before them. Alumni volunteers act as links to the School, providing prospective students with information such as: facts about the school, details about the field of social work, thoughts and perceptions of student life, personal experiences, and your career path since graduating from Smith. We will provide you with the facts and figures about Smith today. For more information, please contact the Admissions office at sswadm@email.smith.edu.
Alumni Association
Governed by the Executive Committee, the Alumni Association creates a strong sense of community and tradition, enriches the personal, professional and cultural lives of our alumni and students, and supports services to the College. Alumni interested in serving on the Executive Committee should send their names to Gay Lee, M.S.W. '94, Chair of the Nominations Committee, at gayleercsw@hotmail.com.
Alumni Student Network/Regional Activities
The Alumni Student Network is a supportive group of alumni interconnected across the U.S. and Canada. In areas where there are larger concentrations of both students and alumni, there is an appointed alumna/us who is the Placement Area Coordinator (PAC). The role of the PAC is to be the key liaison between students, alumni, the Regional Representative, and the School. Alumni also serve as Chapter Chairs, planning regional activities in areas where there are high concentrations of alumni and no students.
NEW - Area Alumni Coordinator
Alumni Area Coordinators (ACCs) are they key liaison between alumni, regional representatives, and the school. AACs work under the leadership of the area regional representative and in conjunction with the Placement Area Coordinators (PACs) to provide coordinated efforts to maintain communication and facilitate local activities. The primary role of the AAC is to assess alumni needs and identify alumni volunteers to facilitate activities at the local level.
An ACC may also:
| |
Develop area alumni activities |
| |
Build an area alumni volunteer base to support activities such as mentoring, hosting alumni events, co-sponsoring events with Placement Area Coordinators (PACs), and identifying speakers for alumni events |
| |
Recruit prospective students for the M.S.W. and Ph.D programs |
The AAC position is best suited for high-energy alumni who have the passion and time to build alumni support in their area.
Contact your regional representatives for more information.
Fundraising
Alumni volunteers play a crucial role in keeping the School fiscally strong. Dedicated volunteers work with development staff to encourage alumni support of the School through giving to the Alumni Association Annual Fund. To find out how you can help the School raise funds and remain a leader in clinical social work education, contact Pat Gilbert.
