Perhaps one of the most frequent requests for information from alumni of the School for Social Work is for lists of alumni, for networking purposes, professional stimulation, or for therapist referrals to assist clients. Smith-trained alumni are always seeking each other out. We are pleased to share with you a new way to connect:
In the spring of 2007, the Alumnae Association of Smith College rolled out a new online directory that has many wonderful features and is accessible to all alumni; now alumni can get the information they want whenever they want with the click of a few buttons!
Access is restricted to Smith College undergraduate alumnae and SSW and SC Graduate Program alumni; students and others are not allowed access.
Getting Started:
go to http://alumnae.smith.edu and sign in to the online directory, where you can:
- Update your personal information, create a professional profile and take advantage of special privacy features as well as other expanded options. The database is updated every other week.
- Search for classmates and other alumni with new advanced search functions and the ability to create "Frequent Contacts" lists. The online directory allows all Smith alumni to search for Smith friends by name, by class, by geography, by profession, or even to perform a custom serach (class/geography, etc.).
- Celebrate your life after Smith SSW by sharing good times and major events with your personal online photo album and an individual profile photo.
- Network with other alumni.
Using the Directory:
Once you are logged in, the directory, career, and discussion groups will appear as links on the left side of the page. Click on "Directory" to expand and view directory search and other options; click on "Career" to expand and view mentoring and job posting options; click on "Online Discussions" to expand and view discussion groups or to request a new discussion group.
Tutorials
There are simple tutorials for using the new directory located here: http://alumnae.smith.edu/tutorials/. These tutorials require the Adobe Flash player and are best viewed with broadband high speed connections.
PLEASE NOTE: To access the Alumni directory, alumni need to know their ID number. This is a number that begins with the letters AV and is typically printed as the first line of most mailed communications or can be obtained by sending an email to sswalum@email.smith.edu. If you have already registered, enter your username and password as usual at "log in."
Forgot your name and password? Contact alumnae@email.smith.edu. Our Web Correspondent will send you your username and a generic password, after which you can go in and change the password to your own.
This directory is not available to students and has specific use/abuse guidelines. Registrants are asked to agree not to use the database for solicitations of funds, political, personal, or any nature other than for personal networking. When contacting alumnae, please be respectful of their time, and don't ask for money, accommodations, or a job.
Once you have registered to access the Online Directory, you can also sign up for the Lifetime Email program. This program is a forwarding program, not an email provider. You must already have a commercial email provider under contract. When you sign up for the Lifetime Email program, you will be assigned an email address ending with "@smith.alumnae.net." Messages sent to your Smith address will be automatically forwarded to your commercial email address. When you change your commercial email provider, you must access the program to change your commercial address and ensure that messages to your Smith email address will be forwarded to your current commercial email address. You will not have to update your friends every time you change your commercial address because the Smith address will keep forwarding to your current address!
