CERTIFICATE PROGRAMS AND INSTITUTES

Current Certificate Programs

In addition to the Advanced Clinical Supervision Certificate (see Masters Field Support), the School offers two other certificates:

Contemplative Clinical Practice
This advanced certificate program in spirituality and clinical social work practice will consider the clinical relationship as a potential locus of the sacred. It will deepen the clinician's awareness of the sacred dimensions of his/her work by exploring his/her own religious histories and spiritual practices, the clients' spiritual beliefs and practices, and the clinical relationship itself. A framework for assessing religious and spiritual development will be explored and issues of ethics and social justice will be discussed.

End of Life
This is a co-sponsored certificate program with Baystate Health System. The program consists of two long weekend of intensive coursework punctuated by a six-month internship in the participant's work setting. Academic content includes:

  > psychodynamic and developmental theories
  >

ethics

  > spirituality
  > legal and ethical issues
  > pain and symptom management
  > hospice and palliative care
  > work with marginalized populations
  > work with lesbian and gay persons who are dying
  > advanced leadership and systems change

Priorities

Certificate programs take two years to evaluate needs, develop course content and recruit expert faculty. While the need for some programs remains fairly constant, the School must remain responsive to changing needs in the field in order to maintain our status as a leader and to remain competitive. The School is interested in developing additional certificates and/or institutes in such areas as African American families, gerontology and aging needs, and trauma. $10,000 per year or $255,000 in endowed funds will support this priority.
