apply for need-based aid

Deadlines

Financial aid is determined each academic year and it is necessary to submit new forms each year, as personal circumstances and federal regulations change.

It is critical that if you intend to apply for aid, you meet all deadlines. You are encouraged to submit all required documents as early as possible.

All School financial aid materials must be physically received by the School no later than March 18. The sooner required materials are received, the sooner an award decision can be determined.

Early Decision applicants who submitted the Smith College SSW Financial Aid Application by the January 5 deadline must also complete the FAFSA, which must be received by March 18.

Early Decision Applicant (M.S.W. only)

Regular Decision Applicant (M.S.W.or Ph.D.)

Returning Student (M.S.W. or Ph.D.)

Notification of Awards

Early Decision Applicants:
Preliminary awards
(based upon the SSW Financial Aid application information only) will be mailed by the first week in February for applicants who have completed the SSW Financial Aid Application by our deadlines. Final awards are processed on a rolling basis beginning in March as completed FAFSA data is received and reviewed. Changes to the Preliminary Award may occur if the FAFSA data differs significantly from the original SSW Financial Aid Application data provided.

Regular Decision Applicants:
Awards are generally sent within two weeks of receiving notification of admission, and after all financial aid materials (both the SSW Financial Aid Application, the FAFSA, and the CSS Profile for dependent students) have been received.

Returning Students:
Returning student awards who were previously awarded are processed on a rolling basis beginning in March, as the FAFSA data is received and reviewed.

Application Requirements

First-Year Applicants (M.S.W. or Ph.D.)
