The entire Smith campus is wired
with sophisticated high-speed network connections to every
faculty and administrative office, all academic buildings,
all residential house rooms, and to locations throughout
the library system. During the SSW term, most computer labs
are open until 10:00pm, and two facilities offer
24-hour computing. Windows (XP) and Macintosh (Mac
OS X) computers are available at the computer centers.
Students will find their rooms
equipped with a computer jack that connects them with ResNet,
the Ethernet link to Smith's campuswide, fiber-optic network.
ResNet operates up to 700 times faster than standard modems
and allows access to campus computing resources like the college's
UNIX and Novell servers, the Internet, e-mail, the online
Five College library and course catalogs, and software servers.
