PRESHCO (Programa
de Estudios Hispánicos en Córdoba)
Smith
College participates in a study abroad consortium together with
the College of Wooster, Oberlin College, Trinity College, Wellesley
College, and Wheaton College.
PRESHCO,
the Programa de Estudios Hispánicos en Córdoba,
has been sending students from the consortium to Spain since 1981.
The program is designed to encourage personal and intellectual
growth, to improve the student's command of the Spanish language,
and to foster knowledge and appreciation of the Spanish culture.
Students
live either with carefully chosen families or in dorms with other
Spanish students. They attend classes at the University of Córdoba's
Facultad de filosofía y letras, housed in an eighteenth-century
palace of Córdoba's old quarter. All classes are taught in Spanish
by professors from the University of Córdoba and other educational
institutions located in the area.
PRESHCO is administered in Córdoba by a Resident Director, an Administrative Assistant, and a Faculty Coordinator. Overall administration of the program is carried out by two Executive Directors and an Executive Committee composed of faculty representatives from the member institutions. The student's personal and educational needs are carefully attended to by the program's faculty and administration. The combination of academic excellence, foreign living, and individual attention creates the opportunity for a personal and educational experience that will be of life-long benefit.
Students who want to study in Cordoba for the Spring 2008 semester, Fall 2008 semester, Spring 2009 semester, or for the 2008 - 2009 Academic Year, must attend a mandatory information meeting on Wednesday, October 3rd, 4:30 - 5:45 pm, in Hatfield 206.
If you have any questions, please contact either Nancy Sternbach or Molly Falsetti-Yu. The application deadline to study abroad in Fall 2008, Spring 2009, or the 2008 - 2009 Academic Year, is February 15, 2008.
Visit the Preshco website for the application forms and for more detailed information about the program.
