| Awards and Prizes
The Sociology Department awards the Wahrsager Scholarship every year to a sociology major (sophomore or junior) who demonstrates a high level of scholarship, intellectual promise, character, and leadership. The scholarship fund makes a significant (approximately $10,000 per year) contribution toward the fees of the recipient during her junior and senior years at Smith. The recipient may also apply to the department for an additional year of support toward expenses for the first year of graduate work in sociology providing she enrolls as a full-time student within two academic years following her graduation from Smith. The Bowles Prize is awarded by the Sociology Department each spring to a major for the most distinguished paper written by a senior during the academic year. Graduating seniors may submit papers for consideration to any member of the department. Most recent recipient of the prize in 2006-2007 was:
