Lecturer Annette
Hunt is completing her Ph.D. in Sociology at the University of Massachusetts
Amherst. A native of Massachusetts, Annette lived, worked, and went
to school in California from 1974 until 2003. Annette made her living
variously through the years - painting houses, in television post-production,
as the director of a nonprofit childcare agency - and was actively involved
in second wave feminism (and in 1974 was a "cover girl" for the newsweekly Amazon ). Her strong desire to do and learn more lead her to
become a "non-traditional" student at the California State University
Los Angeles, completing a BA in Sociology in 2003. Inspired by Mills's
"sociological imagination" she felt compelled to re-invent herself as
sociologist and pursue an advanced degree. Annette is currently working on an ethnographic study of the politics and emotions of consumption, studying culture at local transfer stations. She is interested in all aspects of inequality and culture, and has special interests in education, gender, and research methods and methodology. She enjoys teaching and has considerable teaching experience, both in and out of academic settings, and has most recently taught Sociology of Education; Introduction to Sociology; and Race, Ethnicity, Class, and Gender.
