Tuition includes all academic sessions; transportation for museum visits; overnight accommodation in New York (three nights) and Boston (one night); museum admission fees, and expenses associated with course projects. An inaugural dinner on the evening before the program begins and an exhibition opening party for participants and their guests, on the last day of the program, are included. Students are responsible for purchasing textbooks and some meals on trips.
Fees cover issuance of a Smith College ID OneCard and use of Smith libraries, 24-hour computing resources, and athletic facilities, including the Olin Fitness Center. A limited Sickness and Accident Medical Plan is included as a supplement to participants’ primary health insurance.
Room and Board are included in the fee. Because the shared living experience is integral to the program, participants are encouraged to avail themselves of the opportunity to live on campus, although this is not required.
Program participants will be housed together in Sessions House on the Smith campus. Rooms are single occupancy with shared bathroom facilities. All rooms are equipped with Internet access. Telephones with local calling capability are included. Linens and a pillow are provided, as well as a fan. A room air conditioner can be installed for an additional fee if reserved at the time of enrollment in the program.
The meal plan includes three meals per day, seven days a week when the class is not traveling. Meals will be served in the Lamont House dining room.
Thanks to The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation and generous private donors, scholarship assistance is available for those with financial need. Thanks to the Samuel H. Kress Foundation, we will have two full scholarships in 2009 for students interested in pursuing a career in museum education.
Please complete the financial aid application form and submit it with your application. Matriculated Smith students may consult the Financial Aid office for advice about loan programs, and students from other schools may wish to make similar inquiries on their own campuses.
Eligible Smith students may use Praxis funding toward SIAMS if they are chosen for one of four internships open to SIAMS participants. Students must complete the Praxis application and fulfill all application requirements. Application guidelines and forms are available here. Please contact the Praxis office for further information.
