The SGA Senate plays a vital role in the Student Government Association, as it gives every house representation and provides an open forum for students to interact with college administrators and staff. Senators are responsible for an array of duties and activities, including the approval the charters of new student organizations, as well as the bylaws and guidelines of various SGA committees and groups.
Senators also have the opportunity to sit on issue-based committees, with interests ranging from dining to disability services. The Senate also works to make Smith a more functional, inclusive community by setting and working to meet various goals throughout the year.
In the past, senators have been presented with a unique perspective of Smith College by the president of the college, the deans, the director of dining services, the director of disability services, the provost of the college and other members of the Smith administrative and academic bodies.
All members of the Smith community are welcome at senate meetings and are encouraged to attend.
