~ Pumpkin Work: Art, Science and Lanuage Arts ~

Return to the Kindergarten Page

This unit starts with a trip to a pumpkin field where children pick out their own pumpkin. The children then explore their own pumpkin using descriptive words about texture, size, color and shape. They draw their pumpkin. Their work continues as they weigh, compare, measure, and finally make a clay representation of their pumpkin.

At the pumpkin patch, picking our pumpkins

Each of us drew a picture of our own pumpkin.

Every pumpkin is unique.  Each student carefully observed his/her pumpkin, then documented interesting details through illustration and written descriptions.

Next, we made clay models of our pumpkins.

Finally, our clay models were fired and we painted them.
