Each Area Coordinator is responsible for the overall functioning of one of six areas of campus: Green Street, Center Campus, Upper Elm, Lower Elm, East Quad, and West Quad. The Area Coordinators directly supervise the Residence Life student staff living within the houses. The Area Coordinator also advises the House Presidents and the house governance system. In addition, the Area Coordinators act as sources of support and referral for staff and resident students, assist with educational and social programming, act as on-call professionals who handle crises or situations of immediate need, and handle disciplinary concerns.
Marge Litchford is the Area Coordinator for the Green Street area, which includes Hubbard, Washburn, Chapin, Tyler, Lawrence, Morris, and Hampshire Houses, as well as 44/54 Green Street and 47 Belmont Ave. Marge encourages all to visit her in her area office in the basement of Hubbard house. Sara Sandstrom is the Area Coordinator for Center Campus, which includes Cutter, Friedman, Haven, Wesley, Hopkins, Park, Sessions, Tenney and Ziskind.
Sara earned her B.A. in History from the University of California, San Diego and her M.Ed. in Higher Education Administration from UMass Amherst. She comes from 2 years as an Area Coordinator and 3 years as a Residence Hall Director at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Her passions include the use of technology in student affairs, class issues in higher education, and anything that relates to history. In her spare time, Sara likes to spend time with her family, horseback ride, play with her dogs, read, and do crossword puzzles (all accompanied by a cup of coffee).

Kirk Sanger is the Area Coordinator for the Upper Elm Area, which includes Capen, Dawes, Lamont, Northrop, Parsons, and Talbot. Kirk received his B.A. in Counseling Psychology and Women’s Studies from Keene State College in Keene, New Hampshire. He has since worked in Residence Life and most recently as a Residence Director at Wellesley College. Kirk also earned his Masters of Music degree in Modern American Music at the Longy School of Music in Cambridge, Mass. specializing in modern performance aspects of the double bass. Kirk is also a certified Kripalu Yoga teacher.
Kirk is passionate about promoting personal wellness while in school, social justice education, and personal identity development. In his spare time he can be found hanging out with his wife and three sons, playing, writing, or reading about music, and training for adventure sports.

Donique McIntosh is the Area Coordinator for the Lower Elm area which includes 150 Elm, 12 and 26 Bedford Terrace, Albright, Baldwin, Chase, Conway, Duckett, and Gillett. Her background is in social work, theology, and education. She is currently working on a doctorate in Social Justice Education at UMass. She is very interested in getting to know Smith students, so feel free to stop by her office in the basement of Chase. Brandon Buehring is the Area Coordinator for the East Quad which includes King, Scales, Jordan, Emerson and Cushing Houses. Brandon grew up in southern Texas. He has a B.A. in Cinema and Studio Art from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX and a M.Ed. in Counselor Education from North Carolina State University in Raleigh. He comes to Smith College after four years of work as an AC in ResLife at Wesleyan University. He is interested in anti-oppressive/social justice education in Higher Education. Annie Cohen is the Area Coordinator for the West Quad, which includes Gardiner, Wilson, Morrow, Comstock and Wilder. Annie received her B.A. in Psychology and Women’s Studies from Wells College in Aurora, NY and earned her Masters of Science degree in College Student Personnel Administration from Canisius College in Buffalo, NY. Annie comes to Smith from working previously in Residence Life, most recently as as a Resident Director at Wellesley College.
Annie’s passions lay in working with GLBT issues, women’s development, identity development, social justice education and examining the intersections of culture and gender identity. In her spare time Annie likes to hang out at coffee shops, explore new places, write and play music, and spend time with her dog, Gwen.
