HOUSING LOTTERY: BEING A PROXY

Being a proxy means that you have agreed to:

    1) Attend one of the special lotteries (Chase, Friedman or off-campus) in place of a friend who is abroad or has another commitment and can’t make that time.

    2) Pick a room in place of a friend who is abroad or has another commitment and can’t attend room draw, which is scheduled between March 24-26th http://www.smith.edu/sao/reslife/lottery_drawschedule.php .

You and the student you are being a proxy for need to communicate so that you are both aware of what’s expected of each other.  If you are a proxy for a student abroad, you should have already had communication with this student and they should have notified housing (housing@smith.edu) that you will be their proxy.  You will be sent this student’s house and lottery number via email.  You will get your own house and lottery number in a separate email if you are attending room draw for yourself.

When you get to the Campus Center Carroll room, you will tell the front staff that you are a proxy for someone and give them the student’s name.  Your name should be on the student’s room draw card as a proxy.  They will give you the student’s room draw card and you will wait (similar to how you go through your own room draw).

If you have further questions, please check the housing lottery frequently asked questions page, if the faq does not answer your question, contact Elizabeth Hait, housing coordinator, extension 4940, housing@smith.edu.
