HOUSING LOTTERY: BEING A PROXY

Being a proxy means that you have agreed to:

    1) Attend one of the special lotteries (off-campus, Chase or Friedman ) in place of a friend who is abroad or who has another commitment at that time.

    2) Pick a room in place of a friend who is abroad or who has another commitment and can’t attend room draw (April 2-4th) http://www.smith.edu/sao/reslife/lottery_drawschedule.php .

You and the student for whom you are a proxy need to communicate so that you are both aware of what’s expected of each other.  If you are a proxy for a student abroad, you should have already had communication with this student which includes obtaining this student's house and lottery number. Housing will not be sending this to you. This student needs to send you an email with all pertinent information including an explicit statement that gives you permission to be their proxy. You need to print out the email and bring it to roomdraw when choosing this student's room. Housing will not be printing out any emails for room draw.

When you get to the Campus Center Carroll room, give the front staff the email from the away student.  They will give you the student’s room draw card and you will go through room draw just as you did for your own room. You must be on time or a Residence Life staff member will pick a room for the student who is away.

If you have further questions, please check the housing lottery frequently asked questions page, if the FAQs do not answer your question, contact Housing, ext 4940, housing@smith.edu.
