HOUSING LOTTERY: HOUSE CHOICE FORM AND HOUSE QUOTAS

House Choice Form

First Day of Access on BannerWeb: Monday, February 23, 2009

Last Day of Access on BannerWeb: Wednesday, March 4, 2009

Who: All students who have selected to participate in the Housing Lottery

If you have chosen to enter the Housing Lottery, you will need to go back to BannerWeb between Feb 23 - March 4 to access your House Choice Form. This form allows you to indicate five house preferences. When you logon to BannerWeb and access your House Choice Form you will be notified of your lottery number. The range of lottery numbers reflects the number of students in each class who have elected to enter the lottery to change houses. The approximate range of lottery numbers for each class is as follows:

Lottery numbers 1-100: Class of 2010

Lottery numbers 101-200: Class of 2011

Lottery numbers 201-300+: Class of 2012

House Quotas

When: February 23-March 4, 2009

Where: Available when you access your House Choice Form

For the college to ensure each class year is represented in each house, quotas for each class year are calculated for each house. These quotas reflect the number of spaces available for each class year in each house. To assist you in making your house choices, these quotas will be available when you log onto BannerWeb to access your House Choice Form. To determine the quotas: (1) We calculate each class year as a percentage of the campus total, (2) We then apply that percentage for each class year to each house's capacity, the result represents the number spaces in each house for each class year, (3) We then subtract the number of students in each class year returning to each house from the number of spaces in each house for each year. The result represents the number of spaces available for each class year in each house for students to lottery into. For example, if the percentages for the Class of '10 is 24 percent, the Class of '11 is 20 percent, the Class of '12 is 31 percent and the Class of '13 is 25 percent, the quotas for a house with a capacity of 100 would look like this:

Total capacity: 100  50 single rooms  25 double rooms

Class of 13: 25 spaces reserved for first years coming in the fall 2009

Class of 12: 26 students remaining in house, 5 spaces available for lottery

Class of 11: 20 students remaining in house, 0 spaces available for lottery

Class of 10: 21 students remaining in house, 3 spaces available for lottery

You will have the best chance of receiving an assignment in a house with a large number of openings for students in your class year. The combination of lottery number, available space, and the number of students interested in a house will determine the likelihood of being assigned one of your house choices.
