RESIDENCE LIFE STAFF

Director of Residence Life, Becky Shaw

The director residence life is responsible for all areas of residence life at Smith College. The director supervises the residential life staff, working closely with the area coordinators and head residents. She is available during open hours and by appointment.

Assistant Director, Hannah Durrant

The Assistant Director is a member of the student affairs professional staff. She works collaboratively with the director of residence life, primarily in programming, training and recruitment. She also works closely with the Area Coordinators and student staff. She advises the House Presidents' Association and directs the campus-wide social system.

Housing Coordinator, Elizabeth Hait

The housing coordinator handles all housing-related concerns and issues, including room assignments, vacation and summer housing, the spring housing lottery, and the room-change process.

Area Coordinators

Area coordinators are professional members of the student affairs staff. They are responsible for the management and supervision of a student residence area consisting of eight to 11 houses or house complexes.

Head Residents and House Coordinators

The head resident (HR) and house coordinators (HC) are Smith seniors completing their last year of academic course work. The residence life staff members have been extensively trained for their role in the houses. They are responsible for the management and general welfare of the houses.

House Community Advisors

House community advisors (HCA) are responsible for facilitating community within the house. The HCA is a member of the administrative staff of the college for the term of her service. The HCA is extensively trained for a multiple set of responsibilities that involve a combination of managerial and interpersonal skills.
