Named for a loyal alumna,
Florence Corliss Lamont, of the class of 1893, Lamont House
is one of the newer houses on the Smith College campus. Built
in 1955, it was the first new house to be constructed by
the college after the quad houses were completed in 1936.
Lamont residents agree that the Prospect Street location of the house is ideal. It is near the Campus Center, where students can go to get a quick bite to eat or attend an event, and it is only a few minutes walk to the central campus area, where the classrooms and administrative buildings are located. In addition, downtown Northampton, with its many shops and restaurants, is only a five-minute walk away. Students can enjoy a cup of coffee at JavaNet or the Haymarket, or an ice cream at Herrell's Ice Cream Parlor.
83 students call Lamont House home. Lamont residents gather for socializing in the cozy living room, which is complete with a fireplace, television, VCR and piano. For more serious pursuits, Lamont has a large basement study area.
In the three upstairs floors, there are 22 double rooms, usually shared by first-years and sophomores, 36 single rooms, and one triple room. Each room is wired for CyberSmith and each floor has a bathroom.
