ALBRIGHT HOUSE

Albright House was built in 1900. The attractive red brick building has a front porch, where students like to lounge on warm days, and is close to both town and campus. Albright houses 73 Smith College students from all four class years. Its residents are active participants in many Smith traditions, including Faculty Tea, the annual Senior Banquet, and the Big Sister/Little Sister program. Albright House also has its own annual events, such as the "No Talent" Show, in which members of the house display their "talents." Performances have included palm reading, tunes on the nose flute and a reading of French poetry. The house also started two new traditions: an annual bowling competition with Baldwin House and a 1920s Casino Night theme for Spring Weekend, complete with poker, blackjack, craps and theme music.

Albright has 29 single rooms, 19 doubles and two triples. All rooms have high ceilings and large windows; some have bay windows and window seats. The rooms also have hardwood floors, and the huge closets will help hold all you bring to Smith. Each of the upper floors has a bathroom with both showers and a bathtub, and the Albright Toilet Times (a house newsletter) is posted in every stall. The washers and dryers are in the basement. Residents of Albright House often spend their evenings playing a game of pool or watching a movie in the recreation room on Albright's first floor.  Albright is the one of twos houses complete with a personal gym in the basement and is wired for CyberSmith, so e-mail and the Internet are accessible from your own room!

Albright House is located on Bedford Terrace, right next to the Alumnae House. This puts residents a half-block away from a pharmacy and grocery store, where you can find anything from magic markers to ramen noodles. Walking one more block, students are in the center of town where they can have a cup of coffee at the Haymarket, or an ice cream cone at Herrell's.
