2009
Outstanding House
Morrow House
The Morrow House community continued its work on sustainability issues during the 2008-2009 academic year. Again this year community members made an effort to educate themselves and others about how to have a positive impact in regard to sustainability efforts. The community chose to repeat the hugely successful all campus event which centered around a competition to turn off as many lights as possible. The Morrow House community was recognized again this year for their work in regard to sustainability issues and awarded $1000 which they donated to the Northampton Survival Center
Park House
The Park House community has a long tradition in participating in the House Community Service and Sustainability Recognition Program. This year Park House community members worked with the Treehouse organization. You can read more about this organization at: http://www.treehousecommunities.org/index.htm. This was a particularly unique project it was one living community supporting the growth and work of another living community. Park House was awarded $1500 which they chose to donate to the Treehouse Foundation.
2008
Outstanding House
Morrow House
During the 2007-2008 the Morrow House community worked on how they could have a positive impact of sustainability issues at Smith and beyond. Specific projects they worked on throughout the year were:
- limiting the use of paper napkins in their dining room
- using recycled goods for their winter weekend decorations
- sponsoring an all campus event to encouraging people to turn out their lights and be aware of how much energy they consume. This included a competition to turn out as many lights as possible on campus.
Due to their creativity and dedication the Morrow House community was recognized as an outstanding house and was awarded $1500 which they chose to donate to The Food Bank of Western Massachusetts and Nuestras Raices farm project.
Park House
The Park House community continued their relationship with the Prison Book Project during the 2007-2008 academic year. Throughout the semester Park House community members completed numerous hours of service with the Prison Book Project. Due to their continued dedication the Park House community we recognized as an outstanding house and were awarded $1000 which they chose to donate to the Prison Book Project.

Park House
Park House was allocated $1500 which the community chose to donate to the Prison Book Project. Over the 2006-2007 academic year, house members volunteered numerous hours at the Prison Book Project. House members wrote letters, packaged books and raised money for the project. The house community's end of the year portfolio included personal reflections from many of the community members about their experiences working with the project.
Duckett House
Duckett House was allocated $1000 which the community chose to donate to the Providence Children's Museum. In the spring of 2006 a member of the Duckett House community suffered a devastating stroke which caused significant brain injury. The house community spent the 2006-2007 academic year healing and wanting to support their fellow housemate. The community organized a benefit concert which raised thousands of dollars to help purchase an accessible van for their housemate to use. The Providence Children's Museum was one of their housemate's favorite places.

Hopkins House
Hopkins house was allocated $1500 which they divided and donated to Tapestry Health and Nustras Raices. Hopkins House consistently embraces the values of community service and sustainability. House members participated in multiple community service and sustainability projects throughout the 05-06 academic year.
Park House
Park House was allocated $1000 which they donated to Jessie’s House. Over the course of the year the house community developed a project which involved knitting quilt squares which were assembled into quilts to be donated to Jessie’s House. Park house also did a number of fund raisers throughout the year.
