Smith Students' Aid Society

The Smith Students' Aid Society is an association of alumnae, students, faculty, staff and friends working independently of, but in cooperation with, the college on behalf of current Smith students with compelling need. The society was founded in 1897 and is dedicated to providing assistance in the form of small grants and loans for specific needs, thereby enabling Smith students to achieve their academic goals or enrich their educational experiences.

Courses in many departments, including economics, sociology, environmental studies, and astronomy, regularly require students to analyze and draw conclusions from quantitative data. The Spinelli Center for Quantitative Learning supports students doing quantitative work across the curriculum.
