PERSONAL POSSESSIONS

Bicycles

Students who bring bicycles to campus must register them and to have effective security equipment. For identification and protection of personal property, all bicycles must be registered with Campus Police. Decals are free and may be obtained in the Campus Police office.

Bicycles not properly registered are subject to removal and disposal by the college. Improperly stored bicycles will be similarly removed and disciplinary action may occur.

Students are advised to store their bicycles in the basements of their houses during recesses and on weekends, but the college assumes no liability.

Bicycles are not allowed above the basement level in any college building. Bicycles may not be stored in student rooms.

Students are requested not to chain their bicycles to stairway rails, ramp rails, lampposts, pipes in cellar areas or any object other than a bike rack. Chaining bicycles to stairway rails is illegal as it restricts access to the building. Failure to comply will result in possible disciplinary action/fine or community service.

Massachusetts law requires that any bicycle operating one-half hour after sunset to one-half hour before sunrise must display on the front a light that is visible for not less than 500 feet and on the rear fender a red reflector visible for not less than 300 feet. Reflective tape or paint shall be displayed on the lower portion of the rear fender, on the upper portion of the rear fender, and on the upper portion of both sides of the front fork.

A bell or horn capable of giving a signal audible for at least 100 feet is required, and each bicycle must be equipped with a brake that will enable the operator to stop the bicycle quickly and evenly.
