ORIENTATION

Orientation for all new students entering in Fall 2008 will begin on Tuesday, August 26 and continue through Wednesday, September 3. Classes begin on Thursday, September 4.

Orientation is an important start to your Smith journey! During the week before the start of classes, all new students, including first year students; transfer, visiting and exchange students; and Ada Comstock Scholars, gather to learn about the college and get to know each other.

We strive to make Orientation fun and relaxing. You can expect to meet interesting and diverse members of the Smith community, including other new students, returning students, faculty, staff and administrators. You will also meet with your faculty adviser. You’ll be given vast amounts of information that will help you be a successful Smith student. You will also participate in an Orientation group, which are interest based and small in number. This will allow new students to form connections with other students, faculty and staff that will enhance their personal and academic success while at Smith.

ARRIVING AT SMITH

Central Check In (CCI) for all new students will be held in the Indoor Track and Tennis facility on Tuesday, August 26 from 9 a.m. until 12 noon. All new students must proceed through CCI before moving into campus housing. At CCI you will receive health and financial clearances, pick up keys to your house and room, and receive your Orientation schedule, student identification card (OneCard) and your course registration materials. The Orientation program will begin after noon on Tuesday. The details and schedule for Orientation and Orientation group selection instructions will be posted here by June 2, 2008.

For student traveling from a greater distance for whom arriving on August 26 would be challenging, we will offer CCI hours on Monday, August 25 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Students will only be able to proceed through CCI and move into houses. There will be no meal service for new students until lunch on Tuesday and no programming is scheduled until Tuesday.
