Staff Selection

Smith College Residence Life offers many opportunities for students to act as leaders in the Smith College community.

Head Residents, House Coordinators, House Community Advisers

The head resident (HR) and house coordinators (HCs) are Smith seniors completing their last year of academic course work. The residence life staff members have been extensively trained for their role in the houses. They are responsible for the management and general welfare of the houses.

House Community Advisers

House community advisers (HCA) are responsible for facilitating community within the house. The HCA is a member of the administrative staff of the college for the term of her service. The HCA is extensively trained for a multiple set of responsibilities that involve a combination of managerial and interpersonal skills.

How to Apply (HR, HC, HCA)

To apply for a HR, HC or HCA leadership position, please submit:

  • Application (PDF)
  • Copy of your unofficial transcript (from BannerWeb)
  • Your essay
  • Résumé
  • Two references (use the reference form)

Forms must be printed and filled out in ink.

Deadline

All materials are due on a rolling basis.

Interviews

Interviews and decisions are made on a rolling basis. You will be contacted for an interview once we have your completed application. Individual and group interviews are required to finish your candidacy.

  • Candidates who are currently abroad will have phone or Skype interviews.
  • Candidates who are going abroad will schedule an in-person, individual interview prior to leaving for abroad.

Individual Interviews

Interviews will be held on a rolling basis.

Group Interviews

There are only group interviews during the formal staff selection process, which takes place in February and has concluded.
