Hillel endeavors to address the needs of Jewish students on campus and to encourage a sense of community between them by being pluralistic, welcoming, and inclusive. It provides opportunities to explore and celebrate Judaism and Jewish culture, while enriching the lives of the Smith community. Hillel provides religious services, maintains a kosher kitchen, and sponsors educational events relating to Jewish issues.
Hillel holds student-lead Friday night services in the Kosher Kitchen at 5:30 p.m. Hillel does not hold Saturday morning services (see the Places of Worship page for information about local congregations). Hillel offers services for other holidays like Rosh Hoshanah and Passover, as well as organizing Jewish events both on- and off-campus.
Hillel serves a kosher dairy, often vegatarian dinner at the Kosher Kitchen on Fridays at 6:30 p.m. Blessings are said before the meal, and meals are followed by singing. The Kosher K is located behind Dawes House (on Bedford Terrace, Lower Elm Street). To get there, follow the path on the downhill side of Dawes House. There will be a sign leading to building.
