Coincidently, Helen Margaret Hills '08 married James Mandly Hills, a Brooklyn businessman, in 1910. While at Smith Helen Hills studied music and voice and "gave many recitals". Generous and out-spoken for her day, Helen Hills Hills proclaimed herself to be "ardently pro-suffrage" at her 10th annual reunion. Through the years she contributed over $750,000 to the college before her death in 1973. One of her major contributions to Smith was the Helen Hills Hills Chapel and organ, built in 1953. "I gave the chapel, because I want to help educate not just the minds and hearts of the girls, but their souls also," she said.
Helen Hills Hills Chapel is located on Elm Street, directly across from the Admissions Office and Park House. See more info on visiting Smith
