Eligible students interested
in taking a course during Interterm may register online according
to the policies and procedures set forth for spring registration.
Normally, only students enrolled at Smith College during both
the fall and spring semesters are considered to be eligible.
Students
are required to obtain their adviser's approval and, if necessary,
the permission of the course instructor. Students should complete
their interterm registration online according to the schedule
established for spring registration in November. Interterm
course offerings are included in the Interterm
Schedule of Classes. The related course descriptions are
published in the catalogue under the appropriate department's
offerings and can be found in the online
course catalogue.
ADD/DROP:
BannerWeb registration for Interterm will be accessible through
the first day of the interterm period. Any course changes
processed after the first day of classes will require the
approval of the instructor, adviser and class dean. The add
and drop deadlines vary from course to course and are posted
below. If students do not make
their course changes online, approved add/drop forms should
be submitted to the registrar's office by the appropriate
deadlines.
Students should pay close
attention to the specific deadlines for adding and dropping
courses. No "W" will
be recorded on the transcript. Any student who does
not attend and remains registered in a course after the
deadline to drop will receive an unsatisfactory grade in
the course and the course will remain on her permanent
record. A student needing to drop a course and who
is not returning to campus should contact her class dean
by the appropriate deadline to help her with the drop process.
S/U
OPTION: The satisfactory/unsatisfactory
grading option may be elected in interterm courses. Courses
taken S/U will count toward the 16-credit maximum permitted
for the degree. Students may declare the option at
the time of registration. Changes in grading option
may be made after the registration deadline with the permission
of the instructor, adviser and class dean. The grading
option may be changed at any time prior to the drop deadline
listed below.
CREDIT MAXIMUM: Students
may not enroll in more than four credits during any one
interterm and
may accrue no
more than 12 approved Interterm credits at Smith or elsewhere
toward their Smith degree.
FIVE COLLEGE COURSES:
With the exception of UMASS, students may register for Five
College interterm courses. Students must complete and submit
an application form through BannerWeb by the end of the November
advising period. Students should follow the instructions found
under Five College
Registration.
CREDIT ELSEWHERE: The
college will consider for transfer credit academic Interterm
courses taken at other non-interchange institutions beginning
with courses taken in Interterm 2001 and later. The
number of credits accepted for each Interterm course (normaly
up to 3) will be determined upon review of the credits
assigned by the host institution. Students should
apply to the class dean for approval of transfer courses.
Because of limited course
offerings and restricted enrollments, the administrative
board will consider no petitions concerning registration,
deadlines, or grading option in interterm courses except
in extraordinary circumstances. Students who do not attend
and remain registered will receive an unsatisfactory grade.
