Taking Courses at Smith

Employees who are not degree candidates may enroll in courses provided there is space available and an instructor give his or her approval. Employees are subject to the same academic rules and regulations as Smith students, including deadlines for papers and examinations, grading system and academic honor system.

How to Apply

  1. Apply to the Office of Human Resources in advance of the start of the semester
  2. After classes have begun and space availability is confirmed, submit an Add/Drop Form (PDF) to the registrar's office

If the course involves a separate lab or discussion, registration for both sections is required.

Unenrollment

To unenroll in a course, you must officially drop the course by submitting to the registrar's office an Add/Drop Form (PDF) with the instructor's signature by the drop deadline, as well as notify Human Resources.

Any employee or spouse who does not complete a course for which he or she is registered and does not follow the official procedures for withdrawing will risk receiving a failing grade.
