Read the information in the "Welcome to Smith/Preparing for Advising " booklet and complete the Curricular Planning Worksheet
to help you with your course planning. To help narrow your
focus for the fall semester, you should consult the Smith
College catalogue and Schedule of Classes.
The is available online and is searchable
by term, subject, etc. A hardcopy version is published
annually and contains descriptions for all courses scheduled
to be offered in the next two academic years. It is
issued each year to all students and you will receive the
2009-10 copy when you arrive in September. The online
version is updated periodically throughout the year to reflect
changes in course offerings.
The offers more specific information concerning
courses offered in a particular term and displays meeting
times, instructors, limits, restrictions, etc. You will receive
a printed copy of the schedule when you arrive on campus in
September. The online version is updated as changes
occur. The schedule of classes also includes CRN numbers which are needed for entering your selections online.
Further information about specific departments and program can be found on our website at Department Descriptions.
It may be the case that because
of prior coursework, you may be eligible to enroll in higher
level courses. Most placement tests/info sessions will be conducted on
campus during the orientation program. Placement information
is posted online
at . You should review this information now as you think about your course program.
Please note: Some placement exams are offered online during the summer, see below:
SPANISH: Students must complete an online placement examination and questionnaire and should do so by Friday, August 14, 2009. Please open the document below for further information and instructions.

GERMAN: Students can take the exam in one of two ways. They can take a computerized placement exam (part multiple-choice, part short-answer in German) online by August 10, 2009, OR may take the same exam on campus during the orientation period.
