Student Guests – Friends, parents and/or family members (except for a few special occasions – Orientation, Family Weekend, Commencement)

Visiting Students – Students from other colleges (except for approved Five College students) (Five College students must bring passes from their schools to the Dining Services Office and are then assigned to a dining room.)

Visiting Groups – Glee Clubs, Athletic Teams, Debate Groups, etc. (Smith students may contact our office to make arrangements for special meal tickets.)

Non-Board Paying Students – Includes Tenney, Hampshire, Friedman, Hopkins and non-board paying Ada Comstock scholars and off-campus students

Five College Dining

In support of Five College academic opportunities, a dining meal exchange is available for students enrolled in a meal plan at their home institution: Amherst, Mount Holyoke, Hampshire and Smith colleges and the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

For weekday lunch, Monday-Friday, there is an open interchange of meals. Dinner or weekend meals may be allowed at another campus in a specified dining facility if the student provides proof of taking a class or being involved in an extracurricular activity such as a performance. Each campus has designated dining locations that five college students are assigned to for the approved meal exchange on weekends and for dinner.

To utilize the meal exchange or obtain further information, Smith students may contact the dining service office, ext. 2300 or e-mail eherring@smith.edu. Smith students may sign up for meals via e-mail by sending Erika Herring the following information:

Host institution name

Meals required and days required

Example: Lunch, Monday–Thursday at UMass; Dinner, Monday evenings History 101 at UMass

You will be contacted via e-mail once you have been approved. The host institution will receive your approval electronically.

Off-campus Student Meal Plan

Smith College students who DO NOT LIVE in college residential housing and are not required to be on the board plan may sign up for the Off Campus Meal Plan. This plan provides for meals on a casual basis. The minimum number of meals that you may sign up for is FIVE, and they can be used anytime during the academic year. For more information, please contact the Dining Serives office at 413-585-2300 or e-mail Erika Herring at eherring@smith.edu. Click to open meal ticket purchase form (PDF).
