The Spinelli Center staff are available to students from any discipline for help, advice, or quantitative or statistical counseling. Each of us is also available for appointments: to make an appointment, please click here!

Q-Tutors and their hours

Q-tutors hold open drop-in hours in the Spinelli Center. Depending on which Q-tutor you see, she might be able to help with the quantitative and mathematical parts of economics, engineering, chemistry, physics, statistics, etc.

  • Aaina is a senior economics major. She has taken intro micro/macro, intermediate micro/macro, linear algebra, intro to econometrics, calculus I, II and III.
  • Abby is a senior mathematics major. She has taken all the core requirements for the math major, as well as intro statistics, probability, and experimental design. She has also taken, intro macro and micro economics, intermediate macro economics, game theory, physics 117, bio 152, engineering 110, and astronomy 100.
  • Erin is a postbaccalaureate student in the Center for Women in Mathematics. She has a B.S. in Mathematics. Prior to Smith, she took calculus I, II, and III, linear algebra, differential equations, combinatorics, analysis, abstract algebra, and number theory.
  • Esther is a senior majoring in chemistry. She was taken the core chemistry sequence as well as upper level chemistry, calculus I & II, intro. microeconomics, statistics, biochemistry, physics, and biology.
  • Isabel is a junior physics and astronomy double major.  She has taken both introductory physics courses, calculus I and II, linear algebra, physics 210 (math methods), physics 317 (classical mechanics), and physics 215 (modern physics I).
  • Ji Ah is a senior economics and math major. She has taken intro/intermediate micro/macro economics, econometrics, behavioral economics, game theory, history of economic thoughts, calculus, abstract algebra, discrete math, probability, statistics, and physics I.
  • Julia is a senior majoring in engineering with a focus in environmental engineering. She has taken all of the requirements for a BS in engineering which include physics, linear algebra, calc II, stats, and the engineering 200 and 300 core.
  • Kim is a junior biochemistry major. She has taken the core chemistry sequence, calculus I and II, bio 230 and 202, biochemistry I, and statistics 245.

Green Box 101

Math TA's

The Math TA's are available Sunday - Thursday evenings 7-9 pm in the Math Forum on the third floor of Burton Hall. The TA's are eager to welcome you and to support your progress in mathematics.

TA's can help you with difficulties and questions in the courses: MTH 102, 111, 112, 114, 153, or 211.

You'll need to enter the Science Center with your one card either at the main entrance of Burton or via the Sabin Reed door across from McConnell with the wheelchair ramp.

  • Dana is a math major with a focus in statistics. She can help with introductory to probability and statistics (MTH 107,201, 220), probability (MTH 246), data science (MTH 292), and with R.
  • Ji Ah is a senior math and economics major. She has taken, and can help with, econometrics (ECO 240), introductory statistics (ECO 220 or MTH 107 or MTH 201 or MTH 220), research design and analysis (MTH 290), probability (MTH 246), and Mathematical Statistics (MTH 346). She can help with R and knows some Stata.
  • Laura is a senior mathematics and Italian major and has taken MTH 245 and MTH 290. She is working in biostatistics and can help with multiple regression, research design and analysis, causal inference and (programming in) Stata. She can also help with basic Python and R.
  • Roseanna is a junior math major who has taken introductory and intermediate statistics. She can help with MTH 107, 201, 220, 290, R, SPSS, and Python.
  • Sara is junior mathematics major who has taken Multiple Regression and the equivalent of introductory statistics. She also has experience with upper level mathematics. She can help with MTH 107, 201, 220, and 291, ECO 220, and with R.
  • Yue is a senior who can help with introductory statistics and econometrics in the economics department (ECO 220 and ECO 240), and with introductory statistics in the math department (MTH 107, 201, 220). She can also help with Multiple Regression (MTH 291), Probability (MTH 246), and topics in Advanced Statistics (MTH 301, 370).

 

Statistics Consultant

Boqin Sun is the Five Colleges Statistics Consultant. He is available for drop-in hours on Thursdays, 2-5pm at the Spinelli Center.
