Catherine McCune, former visiting professor in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Smith, is the center’s inaugural director. McCune received her doctoral degree in mathematics at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. She came to Smith College after post-doctoral positions at the Technische Universitaet Berlin and the University of Connecticut at Storrs, where she pursued research in the theory of minimal surfaces.

Quantitative Skills Counselor

Karyn Nelson is the center's Quantitative Skills Counselor. Karyn received her B.A. in Environmental Studies and Mathematics from Connecticut College, her M.A. in Physical Geography from Boston University, and her M.S. in Biological Sciences from Smith College. She also has a G.I.S. certificate from Keene State College. While at Boston University, Karyn was a lab instructor for Physical Geography and GIS courses. Prior to coming to Smith, she was an academic and technical student aide at Wellesley College.

Statistics Counselor

Maria Delfin Auza is the center's Statistics Counselor. Maria received her B.A. in Economics from University San Francisco Xavier, Sucre, Bolivia and her B.A. in Mathematics and Statistics from the University of Missouri, Kansas City, and her M.A. in Resource Economics at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. She is working towards her M.A. in Public Policy and Administration at Umass Amherst. Maria can help with data management, data analysis, and using statistical software (including R, Stata, and SPSS).
