I write to let you know of an important decision
taken by the Board of Trustees at its meeting on Saturday, May 6.
Since 1979, the Board has explicitly acknowledged that
the college's moral mission must also play a role in the investment of its endowment.
In keeping with that policy, and in light of the Sudanese government's campaign of
genocide in the Darfur region, the board voted to ban investment in companies directly
or indirectly supporting that regime.
The decision followed a report
and recommendation by the Committee on Investor Responsibility, a group comprised
of trustees, faculty, staff and students. I commend their thoughtful work.
