For All emergencies on Smith College Campus please call Public Safety at Ext. 800. Public Safety will provide the initial response and coordinate all additional support as needed. They will also notify key officials of the College as needed. For non-emergencies call Public Safety at Ext. 2490. Calling in from off campus (413) 585-2490.
All Fire Alarm systems in the Administrative, Academic and Residential buildings are tested annually. Each semester fire drills will be conducted with or without notice. Public Safety and Authorized Physical Plant Staff will be present and the Fire Department is notified in conjunction with these fire drills.
It is mandatory to evacuate the buildings when the fire alarms are activated. Always assume it is a real fire or a significant problem exists requiring evacuation. You may have only minutes to save yourself. Assume all alarms are real unless notified by Public Safety, Fire Department, or College representative.

Anything that creates smoke or dust may activate the smoke detector in your room. This is not connected to the main alarm system in the house. Pull the fire alarm at a pull station in the hallway of the house in an emergency. The fire pull station will directly notify Public Safety and the Northampton Fire Department. Please take into consideration others around you that may not hear the alarm. As you are leaving the building notify your classmates and guests.
