The Minor in Philosophy
Philosophy majors must take ten semester courses in Philosophy, including
Students may minor in philosophy by a) fulfilling the requirements of one of the following sequences, or b) designing, with departmental approval, their own sequence of courses. In both cases, the minor consists of a two-course basis and a three-course concentration. With the approval of the department, courses from related departments and Five College offerings may be substituted for the courses listed below.
Linguistics and the Philosophy of Language
Basis: PHI 236: Linguistic Structures and either LOG 100: Valid and Invalid Reasoning or PHI 202: Symbolic Logic
Concentration: In addition to the basis, PHI 262: Meaning and Truth and PPY 213: Language Acquisition are required. With permission of the instructor and the minor adviser, PHI 260: Theory of Interpretation and/or PHI 310: Seminar: Recent and Contemporary Philosophy may be counted toward the minor.
Philosophy and the Humanities
Basis: any two of the following:
PHI 100: Thinking About Thinking
PHI 200: Colloquium
PHI 202: Symbolic Logic
PHI 124: History of Ancient and Medieval Philosophy
PHI 125: History of Modern Philosophy
LOG 100: Valid and Invalid Reasoning
Concentration:
