TEACHING AND RESEARCH INTERESTS

John Connolly's research interests are in medieval philosophy (especially Meister Eckhart), philosophy of mind, Wittgenstein, contemporary German philosophy, philosophical hermeneutics, and issues of academic freedom and tolerance. He has taught courses in all of these areas, and also in the history of philosophy. Having spent ten years in administration, he returned to Dewey Hall and philosophy in 2002.  In Fall 2011 he is teaching PHI 211, Wittgenstein; and PHI 241, Business Ethics; in Spring 2012 he teaches PHI 200, Colloquium for Majors; and PHI 226, The Concept of Will in Aristotle and his Medieval Successors.  Professor Connolly will direct Smith’s Junior Year Program in Germany in 2012-13.
