Welcome to Educational Outreach at Smith. The
college has a long-standing commitment to sharing its resources with schools and
communities, both locally and nationally. As an institution, we believe that our
mission is vitally enriched through these relationships. Throughout the school year,
children explore our labs, gardens, and galleries. During the summer, students and
teachers come to campus for enrichment programs and professional development workshops.
Year-round, in partnership with schools and communities nationwide, Smith students
and faculty pursue research and share expertise. The mutual benefits of all these
outreach efforts are extraordinary -- and inspiring.
These pages will introduce you to our existing outreach
programs and school partnerships. You’ll
find profiles of Smith faculty who have developed service-learning
opportunities for Smith students, learn about our in-school and after-school tutoring
programs, hear from teachers who have attended our professional development institutes
for educators, and explore a wide range of Smith outreach efforts, from one-day
visits for children and families to the Smith College Museum of Art and the Botanic
Garden to a month-long summer program for high school girls in science and engineering.
I encourage you to visit our Notice
Board where you will find the most current information about upcoming programs
and new initiatives. I also invite you to contact Doug Winsor, our partnership
and outreach coordinator, to access these opportunities and learn more about how
Smith College can work with you.
