For First Years
During the first year at Smith, students are learning the skills necessary to balance academic life with co-curricular demands. The focus is on making the transition from high school leader to college leader, building a strong leadership foundation and strengthening their network with other student leaders.
First-Year Leadership Opportunities
In addition to numerous campus-wide programs offered throughout the year, these opportunities were specifically designed with first years in mind:
- Join an organization
- Join Senate
- Be a part of an athletic team, join a club sport or an outdoor adventure trip
- Take on a position in residence life—be the fire captain, diversity, health or Community Service Office (CSO)representative
- Participate in student leadership workshops, CSO training, athletics, first-year panels, residence life training, house governance training, Student Government Association training, job training or Women & Financial Indepedence programs
- Provide service to the college and surrounding community through Gold Key, Community Engagement Project or planned CSO projects
