UNITY: Smith's Cultural Organizations

Among Smith's 100 student-run organizations are nine in which students gather to celebrate and share their cultural heritages. Collectively known as Unity, these groups are:

Asian Students Association

Black Students Alliance

Ekta (for students of South Asian heritage)

International Students Organizations

Indigenous Smith Students and Allies

Korean American Students of Smith

Multiethnic Interracial Smith College

Nosotras (for students of Latina heritage)

Smith African and Caribbean Students Association

Unity organizations serve as a network of support for their members. They share office and meeting space in Unity House, established in 1990 and in the Mwangi Cultural Center, named in honor of Ng'endo Mwangi '61, the first female physician in Kenya. The organizations also sponsor a variety of educational, social, and community service activities such as Big Sib-Little Sib, Mendhi Night, and Rhythm Nations.
