How Can I Help?
The Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of service relies on the participation of volunteers from the community. At Smith, with its fine tradition of community service from all members of the Smith community, this means that we are looking for people who are willing to give up their holiday in order to honor the legacy of Dr. King and help the community.

Participation in the King Day of Service is a rewarding experience that we hope can become a lasting tradition among community members at Smith College. Each of you has the power to help provide a voice and a pair of hands for our community and each of you can help us by giving your time and effort as a volunteer on the observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day on January 21, 2008.

For this year, the goal is to have at least 10 teams of five people each. Each team should choose a leader and a team name and then register individually on the Registration page. We encourage departments, groups of students with similar interests from classes and like minded faculty to band together into teams and join us for the day.

Why individual registration?
Registration for a project like this is always a bit difficult and inconvenient no matter how it is collected. While we ask team leaders to provide some information, individuals know best some of the items we need: T-shirt size, best email to be reached at in January, and the like. Team leaders who wish to do so may certainly register each person on the team, and there is a link on the confirmation page to return to the registration page to register someone else for teams who wish to take this approach.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding the Smith College participation in the Day of Service, please feel free to contact the Office of Multicultural Affairs at oma@smith.edu.
