Women in Public Service Colloquium
Streamed Live
Dec. 15
Go online at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 15, to view a live broadcast from the State Department of the inaugural colloquium of The Women in Public Service Project (TWPSP).
Smith collaborated with other top U.S. women’s colleges — Mount Holyoke, Barnard, Bryn Mawr and Wellesley — and the State Department to initiate the TWPSP with the goal of preparing the next generation of women leaders from around the globe for success in public service.
Early in the colloquium, President Carol T. Christ will welcome attendees — including many Smith students, faculty and alumnae — on behalf of the founding colleges. Shortly afterward, Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton will deliver the keynote address.
Smith students, faculty and staff are invited to view the live broadcast on campus, to be shown in Neilson Browsing Room, the Global Studies Center, Wright Hall, and on several screens in the Campus Center.
In addition to Christ, other Smith speakers during the three-hour program include alumnae Gloria Steinem ‘56, feminist icon; Farah Pandith ‘90, Special Representative to Muslim Communities for the State Department; and Jane Harman ‘66, former U.S. Representative.
The program also includes Christine Lagarde, managing director of the International Monetary Fund; Melanne Verveer, Ambassador-at-Large for Global Women's Issues; and former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright.
The live stream can be viewed on either The Women in Public Service Project Web site or the State Department Web site.
