Ceremony to Install Plaque in Memory of Meg Sanders

NORTHAMPTON, Mass.—Smith College will host an informal ceremony in May to dedicate a plaque in memory of Meg Sanders, a bicyclist killed last year while riding on Elm Street near the college.

Dean of the College Maureen Mahoney will offer brief remarks at the 2 p.m. ceremony, which will be held Monday, May 15, on the lawn near College Hall, at the corner of West and Elm streets. Friends and acquaintances of Sanders are also expected to speak.

A plaque in memory of Sanders, a former Easthampton resident and 2004 graduate of Hampshire College, will be installed on a tree near the site of the accident. Bicycle safety supporters will then remove a white “ghost bike” they had placed at the site in Sanders’ memory.
