Smith Trustees Honor Former Chair, Kate Webster '46, with JMG Award

NORTHAMPTON, Mass.-Former chair of the Smith College board of trustees, Kate Belcher Webster of Seattle, a 1946 graduate of Smith College, was recently chosen by the college to receive the John M. Greene Award, awarded annually to those individuals who have rendered service to the college "beyond the call of duty" and who personify the college's motto, "To virtue knowledge," in their service and their lives. The award, given since 1980, was named for John Morton Greene, pastor and advisor to the college's founder, Sophia Smith.

At its February meeting, Smith's board of trustees presented the award to Webster and cited her for her more than 55 years of "enthusiastic and unhesitating" service to the college. In addition to heading the board of trustees, Webster has served as alumna trustee, president of the Smith College Club of Seattle, and is currently serving as chair of the Smith College Medal Committee.
