Local Artist to Exhibit "Sophia Smith Rose" Paintings at Smith

NORTHAMPTON, Mass.-Smith College alumna Patricia Czepiel Hayes will exhibit the "Sophia Smith Roses," as well as other recent works, at the Alumnae House Gallery, from Thursday, May 9, to Thursday, July 25. The exhibit, which is free and open to the public, coincides with the college's 124th commencement and the Alumnae Association's reunion festivities.

A native of Easthampton, Hayes has been drawing and painting images from nature for many years. The rose paintings were inspired by the Sophia Smith rose, planted at Sophia's gravesite in Hatfield. "Sky Images," Hayes' newest series, will also be included in the exhibit.

The gallery is located on the first floor of the Smith College Alumnae House, 33 Elm St., and is open Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
