ABOUT THE OFFICE

The News Office is the primary connection between the media and Smith College. We respond to questions from reporters and editors, pitch stories about Smith to the media, prepare Smith sources for interviews and maintain a digest of the latest news coverage about the college.

How can I publicize a story, event or my opinion?
Do you have a story idea? Want an audience at your event? Do you have a strong opinion about a hot topic? Contact the News Office. We will determine the best way to publicize your information on and off campus, or help you succeed in publishing your op-ed.

What should I do if a reporter calls me for an interview?
Contact the News Office. Whether the request is from a local radio reporter or a national newspaper journalist, we can help you anticipate questions and be aware of pitfalls before you do the interview. We also offer interview guidelines online.

How will I know when the article for which I was interviewed is published?
Subscribe to the News Tracker. Three times a week we distribute an electronic digest of media coverage about Smith. The News Tracker lists story summaries and links to the primary news sources. To subscribe, contact Marti Hobbes. Want a copy of an article? Marti has those, too.

What is the best way to find out what is happening on campus?
Make The Grécourt Gate your home page. The site is updated daily with new press releases, feature stories and announcements. It is a one-stop source for the latest news.
