Dalai Lama speaking

Published September 11, 2015

In collaboration with the Hadley-based Mind and Life Institute, Smith will welcome His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama to campus on Friday, October 23.

At 1 p.m on that date, His Holiness will join President Kathleen McCartney and Harvard University’s Richard Weissbourd, director of the Making Caring Common project, for a conversation on education, moral capacity and secular ethics. The event will take place in the Indoor Track and Tennis Facility.

Tickets to the event will be required and will be available at no charge to students, faculty and staff beginning at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, September 16.

A limited number of tickets will be available for alumnae to request beginning at noon on Friday, September 18.

Tickets will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis to the following groups:

  • Smith faculty and staff will be able to request one ticket
  • Smith students will be able to request one ticket for themselves and two tickets for family members who will be on campus for Family Weekend.
  • Smith alumnae may request one ticket (please note that alumnae tickets will not be made available until noon on Friday, September 18).

For those unable to attend the Smith community event in the ITT, the following viewing options are available:

  • A simulcast in Sweeney Concert Hall and John M. Greene Hall
  • A live stream via the Smith website (smith.edu/live)
  • A public event at the University of Massachusetts Mullins Center at 1 p.m., Sunday, October 25. Students tickets ($10) will be available only at the Mullins Center Box Office to Five College students with ID. Tickets for the general public ($32) can be purchased at the box office and through Ticketmaster; additional fees may apply.

Due to heightened security, ticket requests will require the full name and date of birth of the person who will be using the ticket. Tickets are non-transferrable, and a photo ID will be required for ticket pickup and admission to the October 23 Smith event. Further information regarding ticket pickup, security measures and parking will be sent with ticket confirmations.
