Another era in the rich history of Smith College will soon begin, as President Christ announced in March that she will retire next year, and a search for the next president was launched. Meanwhile, it's been an outstanding season for Smith's athletes, who set new marks for achievement in competition. To honor those who have made notable impacts on Smith sports, the college inducted its inaugural class to the new Athletics Hall of Fame. Also, the basketball team had its best season ever, the Hells Belles fencing team took second place in national competition, the squash team was named champions, and track star Kirsten Silfvenius took fifth place at the NCAA tournament. As usual, Smith crew turned in another strong year; click below to view a video about the team. And look further down for more highlights from Smith spring 2012, as reported on the Gate.
