Got
a Mess After Hurricane Sandy? Let Crew
Team Rowers Clean it Up
Two rowers, two hours, $50.
It's that simple.
The crew team's annual Rent-a-Rower
fundraiser earns funding to support its annual spring break
training trip, in which some 60 athletes and coaches travel
to Lake Lanier Rowing Center in Gainesville, Ga.
Rowers
will travel to the designated location and perform a range
of tasks, including yardwork like leaf-raking, branch and
brush clean up and gardening, as well as painting, cleaning,
moving furniture, organizing, babysitting, walking the
dog, shoveling—whatever
is needed.
Team
members are available for hire on the upcoming weekends,
Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 3-4, 10-11 and 17-18, or during
the week by appointment. Hire two rowers
for two hours for $50, or more rowers for longer.

The Gainesville, Ga., trip
allows rowers to practice in a warmer climate while strengthening
team bonds, says head crew coach Karen Klinger, and provides
an essential opportunity for the team to train in the spring.
“We start racing the weekend
after spring break, so the ability to row and not worry about
temperatures or river flooding for that week really helps,"
Klinger said. "Every moment, every stroke on the water
counts.”
Funds raised through Rent-a-Rower
also help pay for racing shells. The crew team combines the
proceeds with those from other fundraisers, including its
annual Ergathon.
"People can support these
student athletes while getting something for their money,"
said Klinger. "It really helps us provide them with
a good experience, and the students have fun meeting people
in the Smith and local communities." |
